What is Jacquard?

The Jacquard machine was first invented by Joseph Marie Jacquard in 1804.

The Jacquard machine is a device fitted to a weaving loom that simplifies the process of manufacturing textiles with complex patterns.  The machine and the loom working together is called the Jacquard loom.

The term ‘Jacquard’ is not specific to any type of loom, yarn, or end textile product, but rather it refers to the added control mechanism that automates the weaving of the patterning.

What is the Jacquard weave process?

At Bowmer Bond, using this method, lettering, pattern, or branding is designed to the customers’ requirements taking into account the webbing width, colours, and repeat spacing.  Our specialist jacquard looms are programmed by our weaving technicians to weave the lettering into the body of the webbing.

The Jacquard weave is created through a process during which the loom is programmed to raise each warp thread independently of the other threads.  The design of the webbing is incorporated into the weave instead of being printed onto the surface of the webbing.

The loom attachment allows for a much more versatile weaving process and a higher level of control.  The Jacquard weave is more labour intensive and time-consuming than a basic weave, however, the features and benefits of the end product add value.

What are the advantages of Jacquard Webbing?

The construction of the Jacquard webbing ensures that the performance life of the webbing extends significantly past printed options since the design is woven into the fabric of the webbing.  This type of webbing has a three-dimensional appearance at the surface, the pattern is durable and long-lasting.  The lettering, pattern, or branding within a jacquard webbing remains clear and defined.

Design

The resulting finish is professional and high-end, it can, therefore, create a certain ‘added value’ for the end product whilst enhancing the image of a brand.  Jacquard webbing has the potential to elevate the appearance of a product as well as to provide differentiation to similar products on the market.

This type of webbing can enhance the look of many items from belts to rucksacks, bag straps, climbing harnesses, or transit packaging.

Safety Messages

Transit Packaging

Aesthetics and branding aside, Jacquard webbing is an excellent medium for carrying instructional, safety, or important instructions for the correct and safe use of equipment.

This type of webbing has the additional benefit and reliability that the message will not fade or wear away meaning that your safety message or your logo or design will remain stable and visible for the life of the webbing.

Branding and Promotion
