The Webbing Behind Transport and Logistics
From commercial vehicle curtains and cab interiors to warehouse equipment and reusable transit covers, webbing performs a wide range of practical roles throughout the transport and logistics sector.
These components may not always be the most visible part of a vehicle or logistics system. Still, their strength, flexibility and adaptability make them essential in applications where products must be secured, handled, protected, identified or repeatedly moved.
With two members of the Bowmer Bond commercial team visiting IAA Transportation 2026 in Hannover, we are looking forward to exploring the latest developments across logistics, commercial vehicles and transport – and discussing where specialist webbing and textile assemblies can support new and existing product designs.
Where is webbing used in commercial vehicles?
Commercial vehicles operate in demanding environments. Components may be exposed to repeated handling, vibration, abrasion, moisture, temperature changes and extended outdoor use. The webbing selected for an application must therefore suit both its function and its operating conditions.
Applications can include:
- PVC-coated weldable webbing for commercial vehicle side curtains
- Reinforcement within curtainsider systems
- Bottom straps and other side-curtain components
- Seat, cab and interior adjustment straps
- Door pulls, grab loops and release straps
- Equipment-retention and securing straps
- Battery, tool and component-retention assemblies
- Identification and warning straps
- Cut, sewn and fitted webbing assemblies
Bowmer Bond manufactures Secubond®, our PVC-coated weldable webbing developed for use in commercial vehicle curtains and related applications. The material can be welded directly into compatible PVC fabrics, creating an integrated reinforcement system without conventional stitching.
Weldable reinforcement forms an important part of curtain construction designed to meet the requirements of EN 12641. Webbing specifications, coatings, dimensions and construction can be adapted according to the design of the curtain and its intended use.
Webbing within logistics and materials handling
Webbing also has a role far beyond the vehicle itself. Throughout warehouses, distribution centres and retail supply chains, textile components help businesses move, organise and protect products.
Potential applications include:
- Straps and closures for roll cages and wheeled containers
- Retention systems for reusable transit packaging
- Fastening straps for insulated and temperature-controlled covers
- Handling loops and lifting handles for lightweight containers
- Reusable covers, shrouds and protective textile assemblies
- Colour-coded straps for product or route identification
- Printed webbing carrying handling instructions, branding or safety information
- Bespoke strap and hardware assemblies for specialist logistics equipment
Reusable textile-based systems can provide a flexible alternative to disposable packaging in suitable applications. Products can be designed around the dimensions, closure method and handling requirements of a particular container, trolley or piece of equipment.
More than a standard length of webbing
In many transport applications, the requirement is not simply for webbing supplied on the roll. The finished solution may need to incorporate cutting, sewing, printing, coating or selected hardware.
Bowmer Bond brings these processes together through its UK manufacturing and assembly capabilities, including:
- Needle-loom and shuttle-loom weaving
- Dyeing and specialist finishing
- Sublimation printing onto polyester webbing
- PVC coating
- Automated and heat-sealed cutting

This allows us to work with customers from an initial product idea through to a repeatable manufactured component or completed textile assembly.
Material, width, weave, strength, elongation, colour, finish and hardware can all affect how a product performs.
