Bowmer Bond Narrow Fabrics created a printed webbing for contemporary polo brand, La Martina. The brief was to design and produce a printed webbing to be used in the manufacture of an overgirth for a riding saddle.

The requirements for the webbing were, not only to carry the client’s logo in the correct brand colours, but also to provide the strength, durability and stability needed for the performance of the overgirth itself.

La Martina specialises in the latest design techniques and safest technology for high-value polo apparel focusing on unparalleled quality and distinctive style for their contemporary polo brand.

Bowmer Bond was approached with the remit of providing a quality webbing solution for the overgirth. The requirements were for a strong webbing which was approximately two inches wide. The customer wanted to use their own logo on the webbing in specific brand colours. The initial quantities required were relatively small but Bowmer Bond was able to meet the request.

The overgirth is a safety tool used to keep the saddle in place on the horse should the girth or girth straps break. This overgirth fits over the saddle and the buckle secures under the horse’s belly. Here, the key factors of brand visibility and technical performance are met by the Bowmer Bond product: Safety being paramount with the advantage of a clear brand message.

The inherent qualities of the MB411 polyester webbing supplied ensure that the product is fit for purpose in terms of its technical performance. The 1.2mm thick webbing (woven in-house) is used for printed webbing as it has a flat surface which allows for high clarity printing. The webbing has a width of 50mm with a breaking strain of 2300KgF. This product is held in stock which allows Bowmer Bond to respond to requests for smaller print runs with short lead times.

This solution is a perfect example of how a printed webbing can bring multiple benefits to the end product. The heat sublimation dye transfer process ensures that the webbing is printed not only with colours true to the brand’s own colour palette but also that the end result is colour-fast and durable in the end use.

Robin Spicer, Head of Industrial Design on behalf of La Martina, commented:

“Working with Bowmer Bond allows us to create high-quality technical equipment but with the ability to make our product stand out from the crowd with their customisation option. The development process was fast and flexible to create prototypes before committing to high volume production. We pride ourselves on quality and that is why we source locally and back British companies”.

Andrea Bonham, UK Sales Manager at Bowmer Bond, concluded:

“The Bowmer Bond solution was perfect for the application. Our turnaround time was fast and the customer was delighted with the end result”.
